Volunteer application

  • Are you interested in volunteering at CBS?

At CBS we are all volunteers. We ask a lot of our volunteers, but we also provide a fantastic, supportive environment in which you can learn or build skills and knowledge, meet like-minded dog lovers and benefit from our combined hive mind! We really value our volunteers, and reinforce them with social events, discounts on pet products and training workshops. If you are able to help us in any of the following ways, please indicate below where your expertise lies and the time you may be able to give to help CBS.
  • About you

  • All CBS volunteers are required to sign a commitment to using force-free methods (as defined by the Pet Professional Guild) in all their dealings with dogs. Our Kindness Charter outlines our commitment to treating other volunteers and our students with kindness and compassion.
  • All our volunteers are required to have a Department of Human Services screening clearance. This is arranged via CBS at no cost to the volunteer.
  • Organisation details, your roles and responsibilities, length of time volunteering, etc.
  • Volunteering with CBS

There are many roles within CBS that contribute to the smooth running of our school. We endeavour to place people in roles that suit their skillset but allow them to grow and develop.
  • What skills, qualities and/or qualifications (complete or ongoing) do you think makes you an asset to our team?
  • Roles and responsibilities within CBS

Our instructors are required to complete the two-year CBS Aspiring Instructors program. This course combines a monthly (March to October) two-hour theory lesson, supported by practical training at Monday night classes. At the end of the course, you will be knowledgeable and experienced enough to gain international accreditation via the Pet Professional Accreditation Board. If you have previous experience taking classes, there may be capacity to fast-track you (subject to assessment).
What roles/tasks are you interested in doing for CBS? Please tick all that apply.
  • Do you have previous experience training, instructing or competing with dogs. Do you currently (or have you in the past) owned dogs? Or are you a newbie to the world of dogs?
  • To volunteer for our Monday night training, we require a commitment for the full nine weeks of the term. We have two classes, 7.00 to 7.45pm and 8.00 to 8.45pm. Ideally, we prefer to have volunteers on the grounds from 6.15pm to 9pm to assist with set up and pack up. We do understand that life/work/family occasionally derails our best-laid plans, but in order to plan and run classes, we need reliable and committed volunteers.
  • Our Volunteer Coordinator arranges coverage on Monday nights. If you are unable to attend on a particular night, we ask you contact her as soon as possible so a replacement can be arranged.
  • For example, can you assist with one class on Mondays, or behind-the-scenes work at different hours?
